I started smoking when I was in junior high, and because I was young and free-spirited, the hazards of smoking didn’t sink in to my mind much, not until I begun to work and have a wife and a child, and the sedentary lifestyle that I’ve been having does not really help in maintaining my health.
Now, I had been contemplating about how I could reduce my cigarette consumption, and months ago, I started to limit myself from smoking almost a pack of cigarettes a day to finishing only less than half a pack per day. I am a bit proud of myself that I managed to reduce the amount of cigarettes I smoked to this much, but this is still not enough, as I once read that you could only be free from the unhealthy effects brought by smoking if you totally stop smoking and not just settle with a few sticks daily.
My desire to quit smoking urged me to do a little research about how to quit smoking, since it’s really hard to abruptly quit this habit. I knew about the patches, quit-smoking pills, nicotine lozenges, and gums, but these didn’t interest me and convinced me to really stop smoking, until I found out about electronic cigarettes.
The first time I’ve seen an electronic cigarette was in a reality TV show where the top bill had to quit smoking because he was diagnosed of having lung cancer, although in an early stage, and was urged by his daughter to use an electronic cigarette instead to help him quit smoking. I’ve seen how vapor came out from the electronic cigarette he used, and he was a little disappointed because it was so little. I was, too, after seeing the almost-invisible vapor he exhaled.
I know that patches and other smoking cessation cures addressed the physical aspects of smoking addiction, but they don’t quite do well with my craving for cigarettes. I tried using such device that one of my friends who’ve quit smoking had. What impressed me is the fact that it didn’t contain any harmful substances that real cigarettes had, but the feel that you exhale little vapor does not really quite impress me, and it may be quite a while before I get me one, as using an electronic cigarette is still a little more expensive than real cigarettes.
